Get Out Alive is a song about both how a guy or a girl breaks up with the other. In the first part of the lyrics its about how a guy breaks up with his girlfriend. Its about how to survive a break up, in there the lyrics states “Don't put your life in someone's hands/They're bound to steal it away” meaning don't put all of your hopes and trust into someone else's hands because one day they will let you down. The chorus states “If you want to get out alive” meaning not face the depression people at times face after a happy and long relationship and you bonded with the other person, “Hold on for your life” meaning you have to gather up your stregnth and face every day with each new problems the day holds. In the second part of the lyrics, it is from the stand point of a guy of his girlfriend breaking up with him. In the middle of the song it states, “If I stay it won't be long/Till I'm burning on the inside/If I go I can only hope/That I make it to the other side/If you want to get out alive/Hold on for.../If you want to get out alive/
Hold on for” To me this means that even though a person loves the other person in the relationship they're in but it hurts them to much to be in a relationship. And the only way to restore the peace that is in that person is to go.
